Traxxas Revo 3.3 vs HPI Savage XL K5.9 Comparison Chart

Trying to Decide Between the Traxxas Revo 3.3 and the HPI Savage XL K5.9?

Revo or Savage? The Traxxas Revo 3.3 and the HPI Savage XL K5.9 RC Nitro Trucks are two of the most popular Nitro RC Trucks on the market right now.

Both are just as perfect for backyard bashing as they are for racing.  Both come pre-assembled and Ready-to-Run so you get up and running fast.

Both include an engine, a starter and all the electronics.

Which is Better?

Both Traxxas and HPI offer detailed stats on the Revo and the Savage but trying to compare the two isn’t as easy as it seems.  Each company presents the specs for each car differently so it takes a lot of flipping back and forth between the two sites to get a comparison of the two products.

After doing hours of research on both sites, I created this comparison chart of the HPI Savage XL K5.9 and the Revo 3.3 Nitro Trucks which highlights all the main differences between the products.

I must say that even though I’m slightly biased towards HPI products as I’ve always enjoyed building their kits, after doing my research, the Revo 3.3 Package Deal they have right now is pretty sweet.  Since I’m a “basher” not a racer, I like to have forward and reverse on my trucks so it’s cool that Traxxas included that in the Revo 3.3 Package Deal. Also the fact that they include the batteries for the starter and receiver along with chargers, their Ez-Start, a fuel bottle, an extra glow plug and an extra air filter element, all for $599 is pretty sweet.

Of course if you already have all of those things and don’t care about having reverse (or don’t mind buying the upgrade kit), the bigger engine on the Savage XL K5.9 could be fun to play with.

If you’ve been trying to figure out which one of these trucks to go for, I hope this comparison chart helps you to see all the specs at a glance to help you make your decision so you can spend more time bashing (or racing) your new baby instead of spending hours on the Traxxas and HPI websites, going cross-eyed from all the details they give you. I love their sites, but talk about information overload!

This chart should give you everything you need to know to decide for yourself which of these trucks is the best one for you.

Want our recommendation?

Firstly, I’ll say that I don’t own any of these trucks myself yet, so I can’t give a full review on them just yet, but based on the research I’ve done I’d say that if you’re new to the hobby and looking to pickup a sweet package with pretty much everything you’ll need to get up and running fast, the Traxxas Revo 3.3 Package is the way to go.

You’ll get pretty much everything you need, you’ll appreciate the built-in forward and reverse, and with Hobbytron’s Package Price on it right now and the free shipping they’re running on it at the moment, it’s hard to resist.

If you already have some extra 7.2V batteries and chargers, fuel bottles, and don’t really care about having reverse, then getting the HPI Savage XL K5.9 with the slightly bigger engine might be the way to go.

Honestly, at the end of the day I think both of these trucks are going to kick ass.  They’re both light-years ahead of the older Savage I have and I paid way more for it than what these are selling for.

If there’s something you didn’t see in the chart please drop me a quick note on my Contact Page.
